Applications now open for 2024 Internships Program

Australia Awards Myanmar is pleased to announce that the 2024 Internships Program is now open for applications.

Internships are designed to enhance your experience of studying in Australia and are an opportunity for you to create valuable personal and professional connections through a positive and engaging placement in an Australian organisation.

If you are a current scholar who has been in Australia for at least 6 months, you can apply for an internship placement in a relevant field according to your area of study.

Internships will take place over a period between 6 weeks to 6 months on a schedule which compliments your academic and personal commitments.

Once an application has been assessed and is successful, you will work closely with Australian Internships, who will manage your internship placement and will support you throughout placement experience.

Internship will be awarded through a competitive selection process. Please read and ensure you understand the eligibility and assessment criteria and application process below, prior to applying, and consider if this opportunity is right for you.

To launch the program, the Australia Awards Myanmar team hosted an online Information Session on Wednesday 27 March in collaboration with Australian Internships. This online session detailed how this opportunity can work for you and includes a Q&A session to answer any questions you may have. A recording of this session was emailed to all scholars.

Questions can be submitted via the engagement@australiawardsmyanmar.org throughout the application process.

Applications for the Internships Program will open immediately following this event and will close Sunday 7 April 2024.

To be eligible you must:

  • be currently studying in Australia on an Australia Awards Myanmar Scholarship
  • have completed at least one semester of coursework
  • have at least one full semester of coursework left (scholarship ending on or after October 2024)
  • ensure that the internship placement does not interfere with or adversely affect your study commitments
  • submit an application via the application portal (sent out to all scholars next Wednesday)
  • commit to a post internship interview and debrief with the Australia Awards Myanmar team and to provide a summary of the activity, relevant photos, and quotes as required
  • agree to adhere to the terms and conditions of the Internship program

Any opportunity you take will have to be completed within your current Scholarship period. While undertaking an internship, all the regulations applicable to an Australia Awards scholar and an international student in Australia will remain unchanged.

All applications will be judged against the following criteria:

  • How the proposed internship aligns with your study and extra-curricular interest.
  • How the proposed internship enhances your goals to contribute to Myanmar’s development
  • How the proposed internship enhances your personal and professional connections

Applicants must register, complete and submit their application using the Australia Awards Myanmar online application process by 11:59 AEST on Sunday 7 April 2024.

Once submitted, your application will be assessed by the Australia Awards Myanmar team who may contact you for clarification of any aspect of your application. Applications will be assessed through a competitive process.

If successful, you will be provided with a Letter of Offer from Australia Awards Myanmar which you will be required to sign to confirm our commitment to the program. Once signed, your application will be sent to Australian Internships who will then manage your internship placement and provide support throughout your placement.

Please note that a Letter of Offer does not guarantee you an internship placement, rather it means your application has been provided to Australian Internships who will work with you to find a suitable organisation. Success in securing a placement is dependent on several factors including availability of places, a successful interview and finding an organisation that can work with your particular circumstances. It may take up to take up to three months to find a placement that matches your industry, availability, and interests.

Throughout your internship, Australian Internships will monitor your progress as they support your journey. In addition, at the completion of your internship you will undertake an interview/debrief with the Australia Awards Myanmar team. This is an essential component of your internship.
