Further information about Australia Awards Scholarships, including the application process for study commencing in 2025, will be available online closer to the application opening date. Applications will open 1 February 2024 and close 30 April 2024. Information on applying, including all supporting documentation required for applications, will be available on this website during the application period.

It is preferable that applicants submit a valid IELTS or TOEFL score with their application, but it is not required when applying.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

If you are shortlisted for interview and do not have an IELTS score (or equivalent) you will be required to undertake an IELTS test prior to interview. Australia Awards Myanmar will cover costs for this testing process. The Australian Government will offer support for English language training to applicants offered a provisional award on a case-by-case basis. Those eligible to receive the support will be notified after the selection interview.

As per Australia Awards Scholarship Policy Handbook, all applicants must have achieved an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 or higher (with no individual band score of less than 6.0) or an equivalent TOEFL or PTE score prior to mobilisation. Australian universities may require a higher level of English language proficiency for admission. Successful applicants must obtain the minimum IELTS score (or equivalent) required for their respective institution/course, prior to mobilisation. This may be higher than 6.5 depending on the course of study selected.

The offer of an Australia Award is conditional upon IELTS requirements being satisfied. If an applicant fails to achieve the required IELTS within the designated time period the applicant’s Australia Awards Scholarship offer may be withdrawn.

Australia Awards scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.

Applicants are assessed on their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development challenges in Myanmar.

All recipients of Australia Awards become part of the Australia Global Alumni network, connecting them to Australia and to each other — building an engaged and influential global network of leaders and advocates, and establishing a network of ambassadors for Australia and its first-class education system.

Applications are strongly encouraged from women, people with disability and other marginalised groups.

WHAT ARE AUSTRALIA AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS?

Australia Awards Scholarships are long-term development awards administered by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. They aim to contribute to the development needs of Australia’s partner countries in line with bilateral and regional agreements.

They provide opportunities for people from developing countries, particularly those countries located in the Indo-Pacific region, to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian institutions.

For Myanmar, Australia Awards Scholarships are offered for master’s level study in fields aligned with Australia’s development, economic and public diplomacy priorities. The indicative fields of study commencing in 2025 can be found under Application Documentation section which will be available during the application period.

The study and research opportunities provided by Australia Awards Scholarships develop the skills and knowledge of individuals to drive change and contribute to development in their own countries.
